Miami Beach, Florida

Miami Beach is a coastal resort city in south Florida known for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. As a major tourist destination attracting millions of visitors each year, maintaining an extremely high level of cleanliness around the city is a top priority for its management.
Emilio Batista, Operations Manager for the City, procured a Multihog CV sweeper for Miami Beach in 2022, and since then, has added 4 more units to his maintenance fleet. All 5 operate as dedicated CV sweepers, and all come with pressure washing lances in the rear, to assist with gum removal, trash cans cleanliness and spilled liquids.

According to Emilio, the main purpose of the CV sweepers is to sweep sand along the Beachwalk, a nine-mile oceanfront promenade which runs along the length of the city. The Multihogs are also tasked with leaf collection on the city’s bike lanes, and major clean-ups after large outdoor events and or parades. The total scale of the CV fleet’s operations comes in at approximately 15 miles (24 km), when beach walkways, outdoor malls and residential side streets are added up.

The 5 Multihogs were acquired to replace an older fleet of litter vacuums, which featured open-air cabins. When it came to acquiring new equipment, operator comfort was high on Emilio’s list of priorities. “There were several things that we really liked about the Multihog when we had our first demo – number one was the phenomenal suction power, it could pick up mostly anything that came its way. Secondly, we loved the freedom of being able to change the sweeper brushes to different attachments, if there was another task, we needed the machine to do. And finally, the fact that its design was completely different to our old equipment, and our operators would be in an enclosed, air-conditioned cabin and not affected by weather condition. That was a major plus point, not just for their safety, but also their comfort, given the summer temperatures we get here in Florida.”

For Emilio, the Multihogs are already proving their worth, and he’s seen numerous benefits so far. “Our Multihog fleet is working 8 hours a day, 7 days per week. Clearing the sand from our Beachwalk promenade is their primary purpose, and they do a great job with that. Our residents and visitors use the Beachwalk daily to run on and ride bikes, so it’s important that it’s clean. We’ve also got a lot of bike lanes, and the high-profile outdoor Lincoln Road Mall, so they cover these as well.”

Aside from general sweeping, the Multihog fleet is also used to clear out storm water grates which get clogged up with fallen leaves. Emilio says that this has helped to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, as their usage of gas blowers and plastic trash bags has reduced dramatically. It’s also helped prevent debris and plastic from entering the City’s storm drains and pristine bays, which is beneficial for preserving water quality.

The Multihogs are a major hit with the operators, according to Emilio. “Honestly, we love these machines. I personally love that they’re customizable for whatever task we have to complete. And I really like that they truly work! We work these machines to the bone, and we’ve had very little down time. They’re efficient, comfortable and get the job done. Our crew like them because they’re so much safer and more comfortable now that they’re inside proper cabins. We’ve also had great support from our local dealer Jet-Vac Equipment, and the training has been superb. Our trainer is always available and does a fantastic job making sure our crew are ready to hit the streets and use their Multihogs effectively.”
