Case Studies

East Midlands Airport

When East Midlands Airport looked into refurbishment or replacement for an ageing snow clearance and de-icing fleet it quickly became apparent that the Multihog’s all-round abilities combined with wide ranging attachments would be a lower cost solution than overhauling the existing equipment.

East Midlands was so impressed by the performance of its first Multihog that funding was brought forward to acquire a second one just six months later. The two base units have snow brush, snow blower and combi snow plough & brush attachments at their disposal as well as a 1,200 litre de-icer with variable spray widths of up to 10m.

A lance on the de-icer allows the operator to spray into even the most extremely confined spaces while the CAN bus controller automatically adjusts the flow rate to suit the vehicle speed and cuts off when it is idle – a great improvement on manual operation as it eliminates any wastage of the very expensive de-icer fluid.

Glen Wilson, General Manager of Terminal and Cargo Operations says of the Multihogs: “The drivers love the machines as they are much more comfortable, warmer and quieter than the old ones. The ‘one machine one driver concept’ and the fact that we can also look at other attachments for  year round operation makes good sense from a procurement point of view. After sales support from Multihog has also been exceptional: two of our Airfield Operations team and two of the Motor Transport fitters visited the factory to receive training from the in-house experts. My first impressions when I saw the Multihog were flexibility, versatility and capability, and this has proved to be the case.”
