Cambridgeshire County Council has acquired a Multihog multi-purpose implement carrier to keep the track next to its Guided Busway free from ice and snow in the coming months. The revolutionary Busway opened in August and at just under 16 miles, it is the longest of its kind in the world. It gives residents a high quality alternative to the long queues and uncertain journey times on the notoriously congested A14.

Having already received orders from major UK and Irish airports for its winter resilience kit, Multihog reached out to a wider international audience with its debut at the recent InterAirport show in Munich. The Multihog team was kept extremely busy throughout the event, taking enquiries from over 24 countries.

“The level of interest shown in the Multihog base units with their snow ploughing, brushing, de-icing and gritting attachments underlines the requirement for specialist stand clearance methods that have previously been unavailable,” says Multihog Director Jim McAdam. “Airport operators we spoke to, regardless of where they were from, had all previously had to compromise on clearing snow and ice from the confined areas around aircraft when they are parked at stands. The compact dimensions of the Multihog combined with its extreme manoeuvrability and powerful performance mark it out as the new industry standard for this operation.”

The vehicle’s ability to be used with a wide variety of attachments also makes it a very productive solution for general maintenance tasks around the airport such as sweeping and asphalt planing when the risk of harsh weather is over.

The three Multihog MH90 base units on the stand featured attachments as follows:
1.	A front mounted hydraulically operated plough and sweeper combi unit which has a total working width of 2400mm and a 1100 litre capacity rear mounted de-icing sprayer unit with variable spray widths.
2.	A heavy duty lift, tilt and angle snow plough and a rear mounted gritter unit. With a total capacity of 1m³, the gritter’s spreading width is adjustable between 1 and 8 metres.
3.	A front mounted planer attachment for faster, cleaner and quieter asphalt planing operations. This enables the surface to be planed to a width of 400mm and to a depth of 110mm and is considerably more productive than other planers available on the market.
